MERT is in service Mondays through Fridays from 5:00pm-7:00am, and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday. We complement the emergency medical care provided by the University of Pennsylvania Police Department (UPPD) and the Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) by providing professional, timely, and high-quality pre-hospital treatment.
Each MERT crew consists of 2-4 certified Emergency Medical Technicians in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. MERT responds using specially equipped EMS bikes carrying all necessary medical equipment to handle a wide range of calls.
MERT is also recognized as a Quick Response Service by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
MERT offers CPR, first aid, and Stop the Bleed training for laypeople and healthcare providers, taught by our AHA-certified members. Each CPR class lasts about 3 hours. In CPR classes, you will learn about compressions, rescue breathing, defibrillation, and treating choking victims. Stop the Bleed training involves proper tourniquet use and management of various types of traumatic injury. The MERT instructors can promise you an enjoyable, informative class. MERT arranges certification courses for individuals as well as for groups.
